ABOUT
I’m Lisa Sheehan, a freelance 2D/3D illustrator based in Bedfordshire, just outside London. While studying BA Illustration at Kingston University, I discovered a love for 3D image-making and model building. Back then, this involved physically constructing models, photographing them, and dealing with all the practical faff that came with the process, something that felt a bit overwhelming as a new graduate.
My career took a turn into graphic design, where I became an Art Director at the Financial Times. Over the next 20 years, I commissioned and collaborated with some brilliant CGI artists, gaining extensive experience in art direction, editorial design, and magazine covers.
Despite this, the drive to create my own work never left. Eventually, the pull became too strong to ignore, and I immersed myself in learning the technology behind CGI. By working night and day, I was able to return to my original passion for model making, this time within the digital world, where ideas can be built without physical limitations.
Today, I work as a 2D/3D image-maker, producing imaginative illustrations that are often conceptual, typographical, and bold in colour. I frequently blend 2D and 3D techniques to create striking visuals for advertising and editorial clients. The fact that CGI allows you to create almost anything your imagination can conjure up continues to inspire me every day.
Until December 2020, I combined my illustration practice with art directing and illustrating covers for several Financial Times titles. I now focus fully on creating original CGI imagery, bringing together decades of design experience with a hands-on passion for making.
